INTERNATIONAL SONG FESTIVAL OF SERRA DA ESTRELA
Portugal was perhaps the only country in Europe where there was no international
festivals of songs for young people. National, yes, there are many; but
international, not. And this situation was a bit incongruous, especially
at a time when several young Portuguese singers are participating in this kind
of contests, in many countries – and collecting awards...

The International Song
Festival of Serra da Estrela (FICSE) places Portugal on the map of major
international song festivals. And, in a Europe where proliferate this kind
of festivals (some of most, others of least projection), let us have the ambition
of belong to the top league. Although not wanting to take bigger steps than our
legs allow, we believe that the effort that the making of such an initiative
requires certainly justifies that we want to give to this project a great
professional rigor, which coincide, at the same time, the quality of the artistic
content (after all, the essence of the Festival) and the playful side that cannot
fail to be present in an event essentially addressed to children and youth.

 |
Forgive us the immodesty,
but the fact that the FICSE is the responsible for the return of Portugal to
the world of international festivals forces in a way that our Festival wants
to walk side by side with its most important European “partners”...

It was the dynamic
action of the Municipality of Seia, soon seconded by Turismo do Centro
de Portugal, which made possible the realization of this Festival. The
subsequent support of commerce and industry of the region came to value
an event that will surely go beyond the stage of the Municipal Theater
of Seia, giving to the event an economic, touristic and cultural dimension
that everyone will profit. The technical support of WAFA – World Association
of Festivals and Artists (responsible for the implementation and monitoring
of the most important international festivals) is the complement that enables
us to predict with certainty that everything will go as planned.

The many dozens of
competitors and their accompanying, Portuguese and foreigners, which will
visit Seia and Serra da Estrela in the last week of August, will be very
welcomed. Will meet a beautiful and hospitable region of our country, where
the natural beauties and human quality go, since ever, hand in hand.
